Critical Access Hospitals and Nursing Facilities Future Tied Together

A recent report Critical Access Hospitals Financial Benchmarks highlights the financial status of critical access hospitals across the nation. In rural communities, the health delivery system is a group of independent but interdependent providers: Hospitals, Physicans, Nursing Facilities, Assisted Living and Home Health.  In urban areas, the Managed Care Organizations (MCO)  are projected to be the emerging care coordinator for many health services for seniors.  It seems that the MCO may not work in the same way in a rural area as in an urban area…what models would best serve the rural areas?
